Happy New Year

We have moved into our new house

(there are still boxes to unpack)

It was all a bit of a rush and I don't think any of us have really settled in yet. But we are here.

Our house is on an old orchard site. There are some old trees left behind and ours look to be doing quite nicely this year.

One little bit of the 30 something trees

I have absolutely no idea how I am going to get through/process/preserve or ferment and store all these apples. I am sure there will be plenty for friends and the pigs........
these were the first eggs we received

We currently have 3 chickens, they were left at the house when we moved in. they aren't the most amazing chickens, the little white one keeps on getting itself stuck in the feeder and can't get out again. but we are getting more eggs than we can eat. So they are a good thing for us for now.

We have had a couple of swims in our pool, but we are finding getting into a pool maintenance routine a bit difficult. Actually, any kind of routine is difficult at the moment, especially while Hubby is still on holiday.

There are so many ideas going around in our heads that we have no idea what to do first. We haven't figured out where to put all the furniture even. But we do have house guests booked for June, so we have a deadline......sort of.

Today we got outside and had a little wander around with some garden tools. Gran and I weeded the front garden and added some seasonal veggies for Ace to eat, we planted out a few pots of herbs just to get started and Hubby pruned a few of the front garden trees.

Oh and we have a compost bin at last. This is a big deal for us. We need food for the garden and there is no kerbside rubbish collection. So its a win win.

Ace is doing a lot better than he was, he wouldn't sleep in his own room for a while, but is doing better now, even had a night sleep on his top bunk (that's right, he has bunks!)

We have had lots of small settling in achievements (and things dropped in our letter box by the previous owners for parts that they didn't mean to take) I have learnt how to work the dishwasher, we know that the gas bottle man is very quiet, the pool pump is loud, the water pump is even louder, we can see sheep from the lounge and horses from the driveway, there is enough firewood for at least this winter, I have been driving the car, I can cook on gas again (lets not talk about the oven yet) The income of the local tools shop has significantly increased, we have found a few local parks and farm shops.

Right, that's enough for now, this was our Christmas swim. Until next time.
