Rural Living with kid(s)

The good, the not so good and the challenging

*Disclaimer: I have written this post many times in my head and as much as it may sound negative, we have a fantastic opportunity here.*

We have been on the land for a couple of months now, and I still don't let Ace wander alone. There are hazards a (just turned) 3 year old just doesn't understand. They aren't anywhere near the end of the world, but they could harm him if he is not paying attention.  Maybe it is just my crazy mumma brain, being all hormonal and stuff. But to me these things look so scary and intimidating.

Ace loved mowing the lawn at Grandpas, so much so, he would fall asleep on the mower, with his ear muffs on of course.

This mower is quite different and not at all practical for little people.

The mower for big people.
And we have irrigation points around the property, unfenced and uncovered

A hole in the ground by the driveway, with irrigation equipment in it.

There is of course this beauty, that is a child magnet, but a mumma nightmare. Especially seeing that the pump has broken and we haven't had a swim in a month.

An amazing asset on these 30 degree + days

As challenging as it can be to keep him out of harm while still achieving the jobs that we need to do, he loves to get stuck in and help. As much as a 3 year old can help. Its more like join in what you are doing but have no idea where is the right place to stand.

Making the hose reach the apple trees

Filling the new gardens

Building the new gardens, who needs pants?

He loves to climb and he loves to run, he loves to explore and tinker with everything. He loves to be outside having fun, when he can and its not 30+ degrees outside. So we are working towards a safer environment every day, and making sure that lessons are learnt early. For both kids and adults.

And with another bubba soon, in the winter comes more challenges too. Living in the country we do not have curbside rubbish collection, we have to take all our waste, separated out for recycling to the tip....in the car.... 10 minutes away.

My nappy stash has grown and it will grow even more over the winter. Now to work out what to do with meat and dairy scraps that are currently not suitable for our open compost.

wash, wash and wash again.

That's all for now folks, I will be back on topic with a progress report on the gardens and apples really, really soon.
