Walnut Trees

Free trees, Sweet.

The hubby had gone with Grandpa and Ace to go and see the man about some trees. At the tree nursery/garden store. They had a chat, learnt some things and came home with 3 Medlars.

That should have been the end of the story and a short trip down the road.  But the boys didn't come home for another 2 hours.

2 hours......where on earth did they go......

Well, story has it that Grandpa was driving down a road 'observing' the crops other people were growing to get some ideas. They happened upon some walnut trees and noticed some 'seedlings' that were taking underneath the parent trees.

Hubby was thinking of a stealth mission to grab a few outside of the fence. Grandpa had other ideas.

So he drove down the drive, and in south island fashion struck up a conversation. a Cup of coffee, biscuits, milk for Ace and 2 hours later they were digging up seedlings from these peoples garden.

31 of them to be precise. I cant imagine how much it would have cost us to buy that many walnut trees.

That's them there, in the middle bed.

They are currently in the veggie bed, conditioning to being in the open air as apposed to under their parent trees. They will eventually line the driveway from our gate down the front paddock.

It is amazing how our life has changed so much even on a day to day basis. Hubby and I were reflecting on how our weekends used to be in the city. How we did the groceries and relaxed. How we might have gone to the zoo or the beach. Now the groceries are an adventure and gardening or tractor maintenance are the weekly activities.
