the seasons are real.
I am beginning this post in quiet...Jo is asleep and Ace is at preschool. All is calm in the light bright sun, the mum found her cup and the cup was good.
It is nice to get a minute to sit and reflect. Think about all our plans and what we have achieved in the last 8 months.
- we have veggie gardens
- we have walnut trees planted down the drive
- we have pruned some of the apple trees
- we have planted some heritage variety apples
- as well as some other various fruit trees.
- we have baby chickens
- we are progressing on the sheep fence
- we have pruned and cleared away 400sm of overgrown trees.
and when I say we I mostly mean Grandpa and The Hubby.....
Me, I'm on baby duty most of the time. Jo is keeping me on my toes, he's not the best sleeper and tends to like to be walked around the house.
I'm also on Ace watch......That kid overestimates his abilities and likes to climb on everything. Even if it isn't particularly safe. But when it comes to farm machinery he isn't so sure. sometimes afraid, but often very hesitant.
So I spend a lot of outside time keeping him under control. He is doing a lot better and enjoys the novelty of Grandpas truck.
Anyway, I don't want to go on about the kiddos. Except for these ones. One of our hens went broody and we had little expectation from her. Just let her sit to see what happened. Turns out she was sitting on 16 eggs (we don't think they were all hers) and she has hatched 9 little chicks.
We rescued them from out under the hedge and gave them a home in the little coop. They were born about a week before the crazy cold snap, so Hubby dragged the coop up to the lawn and we sheltered them against the hedge.
They are growing quickly and have already learnt to chase each other for the tasty worms. Not sure what we will do with 9 new chickens, but we do need to get onto rebuilding the old coop, and fast.
Spring is very obvious down here. the weather certainly changes and the trees all show it. We were pruning for a couple of weekends before all the growth took off. Now we are starting to see flowers and growth and we are already irrigating some parts.
The front paddock has seen lots of work, getting ready for sheep.....
Grandpa and The Hubby have chopped and cleared away countless truck loads of overgrown trees to be able to assess and repair the current fencing. They have drilled all the holes for the fence post and dug in all the posts. They have even started building a water dam
On a personal note, I have made it my goal to reach all four corners of our property......there is one that I still haven't made it too yet....
Its hard to understand the size of the property. I don't think it is massive (although I pack a nappy bag to go to the front paddock and I take a snack for Ace when we walk to the letterbox) but it is big. I'm working on my next blog post, with a map and an insight into our plan. hopefully it will help you all to understand what on earth we are up to.
That's all for now folks...standby for plans. (and dreams)
